Julie Siegel: Founder Bio

Julie Siegel’s connection with Guatemala dates to 1984. She founded Sustainable Sharing with Guatemala in 2010 in order to fund the ongoing work in the northwestern region that she has observed during annual visits to the country since 2005. Julie’s bio also includes:
EarthWays Foundation: As a Program Director for EarthWays’ Guatemalan Organic Agriculture with Mayan Women, in annual visits to Guatemala since 2005, Julie has developed close connections and understanding of the many challenges faced by the impoverished mountain communities of the Mayan Mam.
During this partnership of on-the-ground site visits, she evaluated and directed
funding to many Afopadi programs.J. Siegel Designs, Inc.: Julie’s sustainability-minded landscape design firm has been in
business since 1998. To support this work on a broader basis, Julie has served on many
boards, including a term as President of the Midwest Ecological Landscaping Association
(MELA), and in 2010, as a volunteer teacher for the City of Chicago’s Department of
Environment program, Green Corps.Chicago Commons Education and Training Center: Julie taught Adult Basic Education
and GED Preparation to adult community residents in the Humboldt Park community
in Chicago.
